Mother Saraswati holds the Veena in her hands and is the giver of auspicious blessings and a sound mind. She alleviates the troubles of her devotees and is revered by Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Bestowing fame and nurturing pure desires, I bow eternally at the lotus feet of the giver of intelligence, Mother Saraswati.
In the Puranas, Saraswati is described as the consort of Narayan, with Brahma Ji as her father and Savitri Devi as her mother. Contrary to popular belief, she is not the wife of Brahma but is known as the Vaag-devi, the goddess of pure speech, who oversees all forms of education. She is considered the most Satvik goddess, embodying goodness and purity.
Historically, Saraswati was a river that flowed from the Himalayas during Vedic times. The Rig Veda contains a dedicated hymn known as the “Saraswati Sukta,” highlighting her significance in Vedic literature. The Saraswati River is part of the sacred Triveni—the confluence of three holy rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna. This ancient confluence, located at Prayag Raj in Uttar Pradesh, India, has even been confirmed by NASA satellite images.
For all of humanity, learning is essential for adapting to life; intelligence is the most valuable form of wealth, transcending both spiritual and material realms. This is why Mother Saraswati holds a special place in the hearts of all Hindus. She also represents music, with the roots of all melodies found in the Saam Veda. Thus, Hindus worship Mother Saraswati for the attainment of a pure mind, for education, for the wisdom to apply knowledge, and most importantly, for true wisdom itself.
